Lucy Brock Child Development Lab

Application

Lucy Brock Child Development Lab is open to children of faculty, staff, students, and the broader community. As our primary mission is to serve students as a co-curricular academic program, we strive to create classrooms that our students may encounter when they graduate and are in a professional setting. Families are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment to visit Lucy Brock and observe the lab in operation before applying for admission to better understand the laboratory setting.

Please complete the Lucy Brock Child Development Waitlist Application 2024-2025 to be placed on the current waitlist for enrollment.

Waitlist

Applicants are initially placed on a waiting list. Most often, openings occur in the months between the Spring and Fall semesters when toddlers move on to preschool and preschoolers move on to kindergarten. Priority is given to children with siblings who are currently enrolled to help families reduce the stress of multiple settings.

Once a child is identified for potential enrollment, the Director will notify the child’s family and invite them to visit and meet with Lucy Brock’s Assistant Director. Once families are notified of the opening they will have 48 hours to respond. If families do not respond within the allotted time, the space will be offered to the next appropriate child on the list.

Please keep in mind that slots are not held without tuition payment. Families may opt for a later time to start their children’s participation in the classroom, but in such a case, they must pay tuition to hold the space.

Enrollment

Once a child has been selected for potential enrollment, families will be asked to submit a non-refundable registration fee of $125 to secure the space. Families will receive a guided tour of the facilities and are invited to spend time in the observation booth to see the lab in action.

Tuition

Tuition is based on a year's enrollment. For 2024-2025, annual tuition is as follows:

  • Infants and Toddlers: $11,040 (or $920 per month)

  • Preschoolers: $10,500 (or $875 per month)

Monthly tuition fees are due on the last business day of the month, before services are rendered for the following month. Appalachian State University employees may pay tuition via the payroll deduction plan. For families receiving Department of Social Services (D.S.S.) subsidized fees, the amount paid by D.S.S. plus the amount paid by the family must equal the established monthly fee for the lab.
