Application Process
Enrollment and Tuition
Lucy Brock Child Development Lab is open to children of faculty, staff, students, and the community. LBCDL is a five-star rated child care facility. Families are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment to visit the center and observe the program in operation before submitting an application for admission.

Waiting List
Applicants are placed on a waiting list for the appropriate program (Infant-Toddler or Preschool). Most often openings occur in the months between spring and fall semester when toddlers move on to preschool and preschoolers move on to kindergarten. In order to maintain the greatest possible diversity in group composition, general practice is to fill vacancies in each classroom based on the characteristics (gender, race/ethnicity, ages, disability, or developmental delay) of current children and those on the waiting list. Because the primary mission of the Lucy Brock Child Development Lab is to provide university students with the broadest possible range of experiences with children, the program faculty strive to maintain a balance of age and gender in each classroom and give priority to serving children with diverse abilities and from diverse backgrounds. Also, priority is given to children with siblings who are currently enrolled in order to help families reduce the stress of multiple settings. Because the center models best practices in serving all children, diversity in the groups of children served is a priority.
Monthly Tuition and Registration Fee
A non-refundable registration fee of $125.00 is due upon initial enrollment of each child in order to secure the space.
Tuition at Lucy Brock is based on a year's enrollment. For 20223-2024, annual tuition is as follows:
- Infants & Toddlers: $10,680 (or $890 per month)
- Preschoolers: $10,140 (or $845 per month)
Appalachian employees may pay tuition via the payroll deduction plan.
Some families may have fees subsidized through the Department of Social Services (D.S.S.). The family's portion of the monthly fee is due in advance at the beginning of the month. The amount paid by D.S.S. plus the amount paid by the family must equal the established monthly fee for the program.
